The Sixteen Tons Club was named in honor of Merle
Travis's famous song that became immensely popular in 1955, splendidly
sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford. To play this legendary song before each
concert held in the club has become a sort of tradition cherished for
years.
Opened in April 1996 the ground level of the club
is designed as a traditional English pub. The stylish interior was worked
out in the cooperation with British company "Andy Thornton Architectural
Antiques" that is a recognized authority in classic English design.
Nowadays the ground floor of the Sixteen Tons is an intimate restaurant
with pleasant music and decent cuisine.
On October, 30 1997 the first level that is a night
club itself with a stage and a dance floor was opened. The original
decor of the night club was inspired by Monty Python's images and characters
and fantasy movies of the 1950s. As the result the hall greatly reminds
of a classic crazy professor's laboratory. The stylish setting and best
dance music create a combination that's sure to attract clubbers and
tourists alike.
The Sixteen Tons Club houses a brewery producing first
class beer of two sorts (Light Special and Dark Double). The Sixteen
Tons beer has been highly appreciated by connoisseurs and awarded with
the diploma of Beer Lovers Association for high quality and traditional
English taste.
Music
played in the club is quite versatile. At the pub on the ground floor
various folk, country and rock-and-roll live concerts are held regularly.
Opened daily, except Sunday and Monday, the night club of the first
level plays host to a wide variety of club nights including Russian
rock concerts on Fridays and Saturdays and alternative music performances
(from avant-garde classic to neo-jazz) on Thursdays.
At the Sixteen Tons the vibrating atmosphere of state-of-the-art
night venue is complimented nicely by the cozy English pub and this
combination is the main reason of club's great popularity.
